Who is Robert Mugabe? Over the last thirty years the world
has witnessed as Zimbabwe (formerly Rhodesia) has gone from the highs of
independence in 1980, to the corrupt, bankrupt and war torn country it is
today. Certainly Robert Mugabe (the man at the helm of the country for the last
thirty years) has a lot to answer for. On close examination of this elusive
leader it appears his own beliefs have undergone drastic transformation much
like Zimbabwe itself. This paper seeks to identify the many Mugabes in an
attempt to discover what has caused Zimbabwe to become the calamity it is today
and discover the effect Mugabe’s divergent views have had on this once
flourishing African state.
